The 1.0 launch will deliver a completely overhauled Adventure Mode, giving you a choice of temples to explore, each with a specific whip, relic, and series of challenges to overcome. We will also be introducing the new and improved core experience with Abyss Mode, previously called Classic Mode, which challenges players to enter a temple and progress through all four areas within and collect the relic at the end. The secrets are highly satisfying to find, and when a guardian is dropping poison bombs or just relentlessly advancing that can feel like it's working against the necessary concentration or experimentation needed to reach them. A lot of the time it can feel easier to just dash on through, ignoring the intricate room design to reach the door to the next one, and the next and the next until finally reaching the exit. Every once in a while, though, Phantom Abyss manages to balance the speed and exploration, and that's when it's at its best.
It's got lots of dungeons to explore, tons of items to equip, and some pretty cool boss fights. It missed a good opportunity by not letting you progress through the story in co-op mode, but it's still a fun single-player experience.
